Emerging Market Multinationals

Chinese multinationals’ record-breaking outbound M&A volume of US$135.3 billion in the first half of 2016 highlights the growing global importance of multinational companies from China and other emerging markets. They are becoming industry leaders, able to compete on equal terms with firms from advanced economies, but their paths toward global leadership are not always smooth.

CEIBS Parkland Chair Professor in Strategy Seung Ho Park has co-authored a new book that examines the specific challenges that emerging market multinationals face as they seek to develop their internatioanal operations. Titled Emerging Market Multinationals: Managing Operational Challenges for Sustained International Growth, the book proposes actionable solutions for these companies. Professor Park and his co-authors, Alvaro Cuervo-Cazurra and William Newburry, seamlessly combine academic analyses with a rich selection of real-world cases to provide a clear framework for understanding some of the barriers that prevent firms from emerging economies from succeeding abroad and show readers what actions can be taken to achieve sustained international growth. The book was published in March 2016 by Cambridge University Press.
