Ecosystem and the Network of Entrepreneurship in the US
This is the magical journey of international exploration at the cutting-edge of entrepreneurship and new ideas. As a forerunner of the recent Chinese social initiative to generate large scale socialized innovation and entrepreneurship, CEIBS are trying to nurture the next generation of entrepreneurs that hold the ideals of renovating every aspect of Chinese social life. Nearly 30% of international and domestic students currently enrolled at CEIBS plan to launch their own business after graduation or during their MBA study, which ranks as one of the highest proportions amongst MBA programs. Other MBA students already run established businesses before being enrolled into CEIBS and join the program seeking further business expansion and innovation to perfect their business models.
Darden School of Business warmly accepted 47 students from CEIBS to attend the international elective course on Ecosystem and Networked Entrepreneurship in the U.S. Creativity, brainstorming, and idea sharing will always ignite an entrepreneur’s passion, and in the section on product ideation and brainstorming the students dedicated to their up most efforts to developing a practical but also amusing product.
The product ideation activity stimulated student’s creative juices but more importantly propelled students to contemplate how the concept of minimal viable product can be developed through effective brainstorming, team communication and alignment.
As stimulating as classroom activities proved amongst students, the field company visits fuelled further stimulation. The CEIBS team visited several recent start-ups as well as those that have already reached the scaling up stage. Visits included Plow & Hearth, a home decoration and grocery company originally established by several Chinese entrepreneurs, a local paper package manufacture whose product portfolio accounted for over half of the total North America market, and 1776 incubator located in Arlington, Virginia.
For many of the students, Card Graphics, the largest paper packing materials manufacturer in North America was the highlight of the tour. Not too long ago Card Graphics used to be a small start-up, before they adopted highly advanced and automated manufacturing processes. These streamlined manufacturing technology and management tools makes this company much less burdened with high labor force costs, and as such they are the top market share taker in the industry, with less than 200 employees achieving very high management efficiency.
The entire overseas elective ended with a closing ceremony held in the presentation hall of 1776 incubator of Arlington, Virginia. Each of the attending student was presented with a certificate collectively authorized by CEIBS and Darden School of Business.
